Financial Stress of infertility
There are many apparent and hidden costs associated with infertility. From clinic fees to medications to supplements and even to lawyers fees in the pursuit of embryo and sperm donation or surrogacy, the costs add up quick. What’s worse is that many of these costs are not covered by OHIP or private insurance, meaning they have to be paid out of pocket.
Each of these components of infertility can also take a toll on your mental health as you watch your bank balance plummet or credit debt soar. In times like this, counselling can be so beneficial, but it can be hard to justify the extra cost. This is something that I can empathize with from personal experience. I also know that speaking with my personal counsellor while I was in the thick of my own journey gave me the strength and stamina I needed to keep going and to not burn out.
In an ideal world…
My hope is that counselling could be available and affordable for all who need it. Ideally, we would see psychotherapy covered by OHIP, but until that happens the way that this can work is for those who are financially healthy and can pay full price do so, and this can help offset the costs for those who are financially struggling.
My rates
My hourly rates are as follows:
$135/50 minute individual psychotherapy session
$140/50 minute couples psychotherapy session
$420 for a psychosocial assessment for surrogacy
Don’t let these rates scare you away
